Mayor & Council
Committees & Commissions Delegate
Mayor Tim Besuijen
I have worked for a local corporation for 32 years in several capacities. Most recently negotiating and managing large construction and engineering contracts. This has provided me with sound business and contracting knowledge, which has been an asset while serving on council.
Committees & Commissions Delegate
Deputy Mayor Barb Gilliat
I was raised in Slave Lake and began my working life at various family-owned businesses. I eventually moved to Edmonton to work for Westcan Malting during the construction of what is now Rahr Malting. I moved to Alix in 1997 and continued to work with Rahr. In 2008 I purchased the Alix Hotel; which keeps me more than busy!
As a local business owner, I bring another point of view to Council. I am proud to represent Alix and feel our Village has so much potential. I am amazed at how many people visit to walk our amazing Nature Trail, and consider Alix to be a hidden gem in Central Alberta.
As part of Council, I represent Alix on 3 Library Boards, the Lacombe Solid Waste Commission, and the Lacombe Foundation, which is involved in senior and low-income housing. I also sit on the IDP Committee that negotiates policies between Alix and the County of Lacombe.
Committees & Commissions Delegate
Councillor Rob Fehr
I have served on many boards and committees including; Recreation, Highway 12/21 Water Commission, Municipal Emergency Management, Alix Nature Trail Society, and the local Lions Club. I also volunteer as a member of the Blackfalds Victim Services Unit and the Parkland Regional Safety Committee as Vice-Chair.
I am committed to promoting a team environment where people feel that their voices are heard, and we can collectively make the Village of Alix a great place to live, play, and do business. Please feel free to chat with me if you see me out and about!!!
Committees and Commissions Delegate
Councillor Ed Cole
I was born and raised in the national capital. After graduating from RMCP basic training in 1981, I was given the choice of serving in Alberta or British Columbia. I chose Alberta, a decision I have never regretted.
I did all my service in Alberta, serving at Swan Hills, Spruce Grove, Valleyview and Red Deer City, until I retired in 2001. Moving to Alix in 2011, I immediately felt very welcome, and part of the community. In 2017, I decided to return something to the community I felt was home, and stood for public office, as a Village Councillor.
I work as a Traffic Ticket Defence Agent, defending people on traffic and other provincial statues, in Her Majesty's courts. Prior to the RCMP, I served in the Naval Reserve as a Signalman (Sea) from 1976 to 1980, and later as a CIC Officer (Sea) from 1999 to 2015.
I am divorced with three grown children, who I am extremely proud of.
I was humbled to be re-elected in 2021, and I look forward to working with the new Council Team, to make Alix even better.

Councillor Janice Besuijen
I was raised in Alix, moving away briefly in my teenage years. I have four children and one grandchild. Three of my children are still attending the Alix MAC School.
I worked in Red Deer at the Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter as a crisis worker and then as an Intensive Case Manager for almost seventeen years. That environment was rich in all manner of experiences. I transitioned into the roll of School Social Worker in 2016/2017. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the school division and working with the families in our community.
I am looking forward to the next four years and the learning opportunities, that this position will provide.
